Image Processing Issues Involved In The Analysis Of Unaveraged MEG Data With Magnetic Field Tomography (MFT)

چکیده
The process of analysing unaveraged interictal epileptic magnetoencephalographic (MEG) data with Magnetic Field Tomography (MFT) is discusses focusing on three of its associated image processing issues are considered, namely, multimodality image registration, averaging of images corresponding to single epoch recordings, and independent component analysis applied on MFT image sequences. A robust practical methodology to perform registration of MEG and MRI data is described as the first pre-requisite of the MFT analysis. In addition the method of back-averaging of MFT images is presented as a valid tool to eliminate some of the physiological and physical ambiguities visible when analysing unaveraged data from recordings of epileptiform events. Finally the use of automated MFT analysis is examined and a possible role of the Independent Component Analysis (ICA) in this process is suggested. Key-Words: Magnetic Field Tomography (MFT), Magnetoencephalography (MEG), Independent Component Analysis (ICA), Image Registration, Image Back-averaging, epilepsy analysis

ABSTRACTNeuroimaging allows noninvasive evaluation of the anatomy, physiology, and function of the brain. It is widely used for diagnosis, treatment planning, and treatment evaluation of neurological disorders as well as understanding functions of the brain in health and disease. Neuroimaging modalities include X-ray computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), single photon emis...
متن کاملCalculation of Positron Distribution in the Presence of a Uniform Magnetic Field for the Improvement of Positron Emission Tomography (PET) Imaging Using GEANT4 Toolkit
Introduction Range and diffusion of positron-emitting radiopharmaceuticals are important parameters for image resolution in positron emission tomography (PET). In this study, GEANT4 toolkit was applied to study positron diffusion in soft tissues with and without a magnetic field for six commonly used isotopes in PET imaging including 11C, 13N, 15O, 18F, 68Ga, and 82Rb. Materials and Methods GEA...

The excellent temporal resolution of magnetoencephalography (MEG) is universally acknowledged, but the accuracy of its source estimation is often questioned on theoretical and practical grounds. Here, we evaluate the localization accuracy of MEG for four widely used source modeling techniques (Equivalent Current Dipole (ECD), Synthetic Aperture Magnetometry (SAM), MUltiple SIgnal Classification...
متن کاملBA3b and BA1 activate in a serial fashion after median nerve stimulation: Direct evidence from combining source analysis of evoked fields and cytoarchitectonic probabilistic maps
This study combines source analysis imaging data for early somatosensory processing and the probabilistic cytoarchitectonic maps (PCMs). Human somatosensory evoked fields (SEFs) were recorded by stimulating left and right median nerves. Filtering the recorded responses in different frequency ranges identified the most responsive frequency band. The short-latency averaged SEFs were analyzed usin...

Magnetic induction tomography (MIT) is a promising modality for noninvasive imaging due to its contactless technology. Being a non-contact safe imaging technique, MIT has been an appropriate method in compare to other electrical tomography. In this imaging method, a primary magnetic field is applied by excitation coils to induce eddy currents in the material to be studied and a secondary magnet...
